The Center for Computational Biology & Bioinformatics has year-round internship opportunities for UC San Diego’s engineering, computer science and bioinformatics undergraduate students. Opportunities are posted on aip.ucsd.edu, please be prepared to submit a cover letter, unofficial transcript, CV or resume, and a coding example (such as a github repository).

We also give back, check out our volunteer page for a history of our public outreach events.

CCBB organizes two monthly events, the San Diego Bioinformatics Network (SDBN) and the Bioinformatics Seminar Series. The San Diego Bioinformatics Network is networking event with the goal is to create a dynamic environment where faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, industry leaders and anyone in the San Diego bioinformatics community can connect and exchange ideas. The Bioinformatics Seminar Series is a monthly lunch featuring local bioinformaticians discussing their tools, research, software, coding, etc.

CCBB’s Amanda Birmingham and Brin Rosenthal write a data science blog, which you can read about here. Past topics include GeneMania, Jupyter notebooks, R, and heatmaps.
